Hey there! I'm Dave Scholz, currently leading the charge as the Director of Football Sports Performance at Louisiana Tech University. My game plan? Overseeing everything that amps up Bulldog Football's performance.
Before setting up shop in Ruston, I steered the ship as the Head of Strength, Conditioning, and Nutrition for Texas Tech Football for a solid three years. Talk about making waves—I wrapped up my tenure there with the Red Raiders clinching their first winning record and bowl victory in ages.
My track record? Well, I spent a significant six-year stint doing the same gig at Utah State University. There, I helped the Aggies make bowl game appearances a whopping five times and land in the conference championship game twice. That's the kind of consistency and drive I bring to the table.
But let's rewind a bit—back to my days with the San Francisco 49ers from 2011 to 2012. I was right in the mix, lending my expertise to their Strength and Conditioning, while also keeping a keen eye on all things nutrition. And guess what? We smashed through to back-to-back NFC Championship games and even snagged a Super Bowl appearance.
Now, here's the kicker: I'm not just about football. I've got a roster of experience across various sports—basketball, wrestling, gymnastics, softball, baseball, track and field (you name it, all events), cross country, soccer, tennis, swimming (every stroke), and diving.

The Training and Nutrition Program we had at Utah State under Dave Scholz was one of the best I’ve been a part of in my entire career. The training aspect was very individualized to help with building strength and mobility, while simultaneously aiding in recovery. The nutritional program went above and beyond to help educate and implement strategies for all of us to increase muscle and decrease body fat so you could get into your ideal playing shape.
I had the privilege to be mentored by Dave Scholz at Utah State University where I walked on to play football. When I came into the program I was undersized and in order for me to be able to fulfill my dream I needed to get stronger and faster. I believe that Dave’s strength program was second to none in collegiate athletics. What really put the program over the top was Dave’s nutritional knowledge and expertise. There was a phrase that all athletes at USU used – “Body by Dave” because your body literally transformed under his guidance. A good training program without proper lifestyle will only go so far. Dave didn’t just tell us what to eat or what supplements to take – he taught us why. I still reference his teachings today and will do so the rest of my life.
Coach Scholz was instrumental in propelling my college football career to new heights. As a non-scholarship athlete, I faced the challenge of proving my worth on the field. Coach Scholz, with his exceptional knowledge of strength and conditioning, designed a personalized program that not only elevated my performance but played a pivotal role in securing a scholarship.
